Sure, a real OC would let you quickly measure angles and distances, but it seems like a digicam that would let you capture images (with a good scale included in the photo) would let you then import it into something like Rhino as a background image and then you could draw a couple of lines and have the program tell you what the angle is.Īnd if you had a digicam (possibly coupled with some sort of intermediate optics) and a laptop you could schlep it over to most anything that needed enlarging/measuring and get a useable image.Ī digicam would have an additional benefit of letting you store zoomed-in images of parts/tools for future reference. Size & Weight: 4.75' L x 6.5' W x 10.5 ' H: 1.7lb. I saw one person using a Logitech QuickCam that will focus, and they were putting an object right on the lens and using that for microscope-type use. I've tried using my 4m/pixel digicam to take photos of the spline teeth in a motorcycle countershaft sprocket, but the camera (Fuji 6900z) isn't "macro enough" in macro mode for it to be really useful. I did some googling and there are a number of digital cameras available that hook up to microscopes, but it seems like if you wanted to look end-on at the spline teeth on 10" long shaft a microscope might not be quite the ticket.
